So Long and Farwell to My Job

Today is my last official day with Industry Dive (Informa TechTarget whatever). After three years at my current job, my position is being eliminated as part of organization-wide restructuring. Right now I’m mostly stunned and a bit disoriented, but soon I will recover and dig down deep and find all of the reasons this is a good thing.

I’d love to be considered for any content or communication roles where a company could use a data-driven storyteller and strategist.

As Michael Keaton said in the great 1989 Batman movie, “Tell all your friends about me.”

I also wanted to take a minute to thank some people who made me better and who future employers can thank for me being a better person and a better employee.

First, My original squad mates Michaela Fleming Julia Westerman Mirna Araklian Samantha Schwartz and Alexandra Mass were the best co-workers a guy could ever wish for, and Madeline Haaga who makes everyone around her smarter, cooler, and more amazing, including me. Sarina Wonder was my training class buddy and we will be forever bonded by that experience. Jane Qin Medeiros was as approachable as a head boss could ever be, and I’m happy I was able to be part of the group that got to experience her leadership in the smaller days of ID. Kate Jones and her team worked hard to make sure that all of the projects I worked on looked spectacular.

Rebecca Harkey was one of my trainers during my early days and continued answering dumb questions of mine right up until the very end. Erin McFarland took time out of her insanely busy day regularly to share her wisdom and experience with all things ID, and I envy anyone else who gets to continue working with her or work with her in the future.

Finally, Nicholas Scibetta was one of the best managers I’ve ever had. It was fun being able to geek out about stuff that was technically related to work, but still fun. He threaded the line between supervisor and colleague incredibly well even when I made it hard on him. And there are so many more that I’m forgetting or that will crash the system if I try to name them all. Just know that if we ever worked together, I’m better for it. Probably.

<insert witty, pop culture-tinged farewell line here>
