This picture perfectly encapsulates me at 42. It’s not what I had in mind when I started taking the photo, but I like it better than what I planned. I was going to take one of just myself, but Natalie saw me and asked if she could take a picture with me and who can say no to that? The photo’s a little blurry, like time seems to be these days, and it’s a little bit backward, but I love where I am in my life. I used to do these things and they always seemed a little self-centered, but these days I find I care more about those around me and the other things going on in my life than myself and that seems like the way it should be.
I spent the morning at McDonalds having breakfast with Becky and the kids while we worked our way through the newspaper, then I came home and played some video games before going to see A Simple Favor. It was a great movie that served as a nice inspirational push to get back to work on my own book as my output has stalled post-Bouchercon. The rest of the evening was spent at my in-laws where we had the bonus of extra relatives because some folks who had moved away to coastal North Carolina came back to Michigan to wait out the storms.
All told it was a great day and I look forward to the next 42 years of my life.
