Two Trick Pony

Ding dong the book is dead! And by that I mean it’s finished.

Six months and four days after I started it on the couch in my house in Ann Arbor while watching “Two and a Half Men,” I typed the 73,953rd word on the 304th page of the novel now known as “Scar Tissue.”

The most exciting thing about finishing this book is that I proved to myself I’m not a fluke. After spending so long (more than four years) writing and rewriting and fixing and polishing “Lunchbox Hero” I started wondering if I could ever write a book that didn’t take place in that world. Well, the answer is a resounding YES. There’s still the question of whether I should have or not…

On a sad note though, it’s a bit disheartening that I started this book while I was with Toledo and she was there with me for most of the big milestones but i don;t get to share finishing it with her. Ce le vi I guess.

  1. YAY! Very very cool, now put it aside, go figure out a way to enjoy yourself and come back to it when you have some distance.

  2. Congratulations, Bryon! The hard part’s done. I agree with Sarah, go celebrate, then come back to it in a couple of weeks to start the edits. Way to go!

  3. Uh… what they said! And go, get drunk. Wipe the book from your head. Then edit with fresh eyes.Someone else’s eyes. Stolen from them in their sleep. Their sweet, gooey, delicious sleep.

  4. Good for you. It’s an amazing feeling that doesn’t come along very often, so celebrate with as many drinks, drugs and hookers as you can take. Or maybe just a nice glass of cordial, held up to the sun streaming through the window.Whatever helps you mark the moment.
