Rock out, aisle four

Hall and Oates concert. Good. Lions game. Bad. Writing output. Eh, getting there.

Let’s discuss.

Saturday night Becky and I went down to the Fox Theatre in Detroit and saw the Hall and Oates “Home for Christmas” concert. It was probably one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to and I’m happy to embrace my age and realize now I prefer concerts at theaters rather than massive arenas. Though quite a few times I thought I was in a supermarket or dentist’s office because of their mellow, easy listening sound. Several people around us were complaining because the band was playing too much Christmas music and not enough classic stuff. Not that it was a CHRISTMAS concert or anything like that…sheesh. But the weather and the decorations and everything downtown were perfectly holiday and we had a blast.

The Lions can kiss my cheesehead. End optimism.

The bad news with my writing is that until last night it had been 12 days since I’d written a full thousand words or more. The good news is that during that period I still wrote almost everyday, averaging 400 words a day. This kept the story fresh in my brain and my writing muscles working so that once I finally got my butt in gear I was ready to go. Total word count is now 53,000 and in great shape to be finished by the end of the year.

  1. You can’t possibly still be thinking the Lions are any good, can you? I mean, come on. They are the Lions. You should expect more horrible losses as the season comes to a merciful close.

And I was stunned to learn that Hall and Oates are not only performing, but that people are paying to see them.

  2. I’m not sure, though, that bands like this SHOULD still be around. Sort of like Styx or Air Supply or ELO (that’s Electric Light Orchestra for those of you who don’t remember…) They were very much of their time. I don’t know that I want to see them beyond that.

That said, though, Springsteen still rocks. But he was in a whole different league back then, too.
