I’ve had a nasty case of the wanderlust lately. Part of it I’m sure has to do with the gorgeous weather we’ve been having here and the fact that I no longer have a two hour road trip ahead of me every weekend. The biggest trip occupying my mind has been New York City. As much as I love the city, I haven’t been able to go back since the last time I lived there right before September 11. I had thought it would be nice to go out there for Edgar week but schedules ans finances didn’t pan out for that. It looks now like I’ll be able to plan something toward the end of July around the time of the Backspace Writers Conference. But until then, I still want to drive somewhere.

Traveling has always been a passion of mine. And while I certainly want to do some world traveling (the touristy parts of Europe, etc.) I really want to explore everything we have here in the US. At least once I want to drive cross-country from New York to Los Angeles. I also want to drive up the East Coast through New England and all the various small towns along the way. I’ve done the bulk of my traveling down south but I still want to hit Nashville and the Gulf Coast. Next year, Bouchercon is in Alaska and I am making plans now to hock all non-vital organs in my body to make that trip.

What kind of travelers do we have around here? Any big world travelers? Anyone with cool travel goals?

  1. You’re welcome in NC, Bryon.I’ve been all over the place in this hemisphere. Nothing like traveling on Uncle’s dime to let you see the world. But if you want real travelers, check out the guys over at Contemporary Nomad. They make all of us look like xenophobes.
