100 words…

…is all I wrote today. I had intended to write more and even got an early start on it. After wasting most of the morning at home fiddling on the Internet, I threw my laptop into my bag and headed to Borders to write for the afternoon. I expected to get about 1000 words done to finish off the chapter I started writing Thursday when I got 715 words written. Instead, I spent five hours reading People magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Script magazine, and Men’s Health. I also read the first couple chapters of the new Spenser novel. I should have gone to Starbucks instead.

By the time 6pm rolled around I was sick of Borders and ready to go home. I figured I’d rent a couple movies and write while I watched them so I got 54 and Stander. Stander was good, starring Thomas Jane as a South African cop turned bank robber in the 70s. I have a HUGE weak spot for heist and bank robbery movies of all kinds so of course I got swept up in the story and didn’t write anything. I skipped watching 54 for now and turned the radio to the local easy listening channel where they play disco music and early 80s music all weekend. This is when I wrote the 100 words. Actually I wrote 105 but cut six words and put one back. All I did was add a couple new paragraphs to the scene I did Thursday. I really like the new graphs. They fit the character more than the previous chapter ending but still..100 words.

And yet I’m not completely distraught. I’d feel much worse if I hadn’t written anything. When I get back into the writing it takes a few false starts to get back into the groove and this time is no different. I hope I’ll write more than 100 words tommorow, in fact if I do end up writing I know I’ll write more than 100 words, but you never know. I just don’t want to go more than a day or so without writing something. I know where I’m going for now. I’ve got maybe another 2K to type up to tie off this loose end so it’s more of a matter of gluing my butt to the chair long enough to write it more than any sort of blockage.

And no, the irony of a 400 word long post about only writing 100 words for the day is not lost on me…
